Feeding Medina County | Fighting Hunger and Food Insecurity

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Feeding Medina County would not be successful without the hands-on support of our amazing volunteers! It takes 50 volunteers a week for our programs to run smoothly. Our volunteer opportunities primarily take place on weekday mornings. We have two shifts per month with late afternoon hours, however we are currently not offering evening or weekend shifts. If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity for a child or children’s group between the age of 10 – 16 years of age, please call our office to discuss the limited options we have available.

Below you will find more information about the various activities our Feeding Medina County volunteers do on a weekly basis. The first step in becoming a volunteer is completing the online application by clicking the link.

We look forward to working with you soon!

Weekender Program Packing

We pack close to 1000 weekender bags a week in our warehouse. This job takes about 17 volunteers and 2 hours of time. Each bag is filled with 5 – 8 lbs of food, sealed and shelved for pick-up. These shifts are Tuesday mornings, from 9:00am – 11:00am. It requires lifting and standing for long periods of time.

Staples For Seniors Packing

This job takes about 15 volunteers and 2 to 3 hours of time. Each bag is filled with 5 to 8 lbs of food, sealed and shelved for pick-up. These shifts are on the 3rd Friday of every month, from 8:45am – 11:30am. It requires lifting and standing for long periods of time.

Delivery Drivers

FMC is always looking for volunteers to help deliver Weekender bags to participating schools and Staples for Senior bags (and bulk food items) to senior facilities with your own vehicle. Large SUVs & trucks are ideal, or you can consider setting up a team of people to tackle one delivery.

FMC Box Truck Drivers and Helpers

We need drivers and helpers on our FMC truck who will pick up food at Akron Canton Regional Food Bank or various stores, and deliver to FMC and food pantries throughout Medina County. You do not need a CDL however, you will need to be able to move pallets of food with equipment.

Food Distributions

Join us on Thursdays at our distributions! We have locations in Brunswick, Lodi, Medina, and Wadsworth each month and typically need at least 12-15 volunteers at each location. Shifts are typically about 2-2.5 hours. Volunteers will help package and fill trunks with food, and should be comfortable being outside in the elements as well as standing and lifting 5-10 lbs.

Home Delivery Program Drivers

The Home Delivery Program benefits clients here in Medina County, but volunteers are managed through the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.

We are seeking volunteers to support our home delivery program.  Volunteers will deliver food to individuals’ homes twice per month using their own vehicle.  A smartphone with internet access is required.  Drivers can sign up for individual shifts or for a consistent schedule.

Medina needs volunteers like you to help keep this program going and we would love to tell you all about it – just click  here to fill out the form and the Foodbank will reach out to you shortly!
