Feeding Medina County | Fighting Hunger and Food Insecurity

Our Staff

Janet Newcomer
Executive Director

Janet Newcomer is a life-long Medina County resident. She grew up on a small family dairy farm in Chatham Township, and lives on what remains of that farm. A graduate of Cloverleaf and Kent State University, Janet began her career in business-to-business sales, and then moved into the non-profit sector. She was the first development officer at Hospice of Medina County and went on to work as a fundraiser for Case Western Reserve University, Kent State University and the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. She began her work in hunger and food insecurity with an international hunger relief organization, Rise Against Hunger. Prior to coming to FMC, Janet was with the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank. Janet feels working to fight hunger is the most important work she’s done in her career. She loves being outdoors, enjoys doing a little bit of farming, being involved in activities in Chatham, and spending time with family and friends.

Daniel Meagher
Director of Operations

Daniel Meagher is a native of Upstate New York, but has been a proud resident of Medina, Ohio since 2008. His previous experience with commercial and residential contracting has given him the skills to meet the logistical and organizational needs of Feeding Medina County. One of his favorite parts about the job is working with the dedicated volunteers that make this organization so strong. In his spare time, Daniel enjoys building and repairing computers and exploring the region’s great parks with his family.

Kelly Smith
Director of Engagement

Kelly Smith was born and raised in Northeast Ohio and has lived in Medina since 2013. She began her career with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana in 2001 as a Program Manager. She and her husband then spent eight years in Austin, TX where she worked in Development for The SAFE Children’s Shelter, and as the Program Director for the Volunteer Healthcare Clinic. After taking some time off to stay home with her three children, she was excited to join Feeding Medina County in 2019. Kelly loves the restaurants, parks and small town feel of Medina. She spends as much time as possible outside gardening, swimming and golfing with her family.

Christy Clark grew up in Copley, Ohio before attending The University of Akron where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Communications.  Previously, she worked at FirstEnergy Corp. in various roles including recruiting Line Workers and Substation Electricians as well as Product Development and Marketing.  After taking a few years off to stay home with her 3 kids, she’s excited to be returning to the workforce specifically in the nonprofit sector.  Outside of work she enjoys volunteering for school activities/events, watching her kids play a variety of sports, golfing and discovering new local restaurants and shops.

Jeff Sottile
Warehouse Associate II

Jeff Sottile was born and raised in Northeast Ohio. He is married and has six children, all of whom are grown and living out their own dreams. Jeff is also a proud grandparent of three amazing children, and he and his wife have one loyal dog and two rambunctious cats. When he isn’t working in FMC’s warehouse, Jeff and his wife are often camping and going on adventures in Southeast Ohio. He loves every genre of music, especially rock and country, which he often plays in the warehouse and is a big fan of the Browns and fantasy football. Jeff is our favorite “foodie” and enjoys cooking and trying new foods & restaurants. He is very proud of the work we do at Feeding Medina County and an asset to our team.
